schuyler van allen is an outsider at her fancy new york private school. her only friend is oliver. she lives with her reclusive grandmother. her father is dead and her mom has been in a coma for several years.

when she turns fifteen a map of blue veins show up on her arm. she begins to crave raw meat.

a popular girl at school is murdered. the most popular boy at school suddenly starts paying schuyler attention. he even saves her from being attacked by the same person who killed aggie.

what schuyler doesn't know but will soon learn is that she comes from a long line of vampires that came over on the mayflower. and someone out there is hunting them.

this book is well-written and fast-paced. i really enjoyed the historical references. diary chapters from one of the pilgrims are interspersed in the narrative. it is another vampire story that takes reinterprets vampire lore. it is more complex in plot then i let on. by the end of the book i was very intrigued with where the series is going.
