milestones

this past weekend was full and plentiful. L2 graduated on friday. :) all in all, it was a great evening. L2 was radiant and looked like an egyptian goddess.
the graduation ceremony itself was long and tedious but it was really fun to stand up and cheer like it's nobody's business when she crossed the stage. that is the only real fun to be had unless you are the one graduating, in my opinion. afterwards, we went to a bar for a bit of celebration. i had a really good time during the short time i was there. izzy, who never drinks and is a notoriously cheap drunk, was blasted after downing only a third of her margarita. she is really cute and funny whilst intoxicated. to her credit, she was drinking on an empty stomach. and we were misled to think that the bar served some sort of food in the way of snacks. but they didn't.

saturday was the celebration dinner at palermo's. i was really looking forward to this. i love palermo's. i love my friends. it felt a little awkward at the beginning but as the night wore on everyone loosened up and great fun was had. i met new people this weekend. people that i would love to get to know better if i weren't moving.

and sunday was my wedding shower. and it went well! i had a good time and i am pretty sure everyone else did too.

now, i really wasn't planning on having any of these celebratory type parties once engaged. i am not really a shower person. i don't like attending showers so i didn't really think i would like having one. but b's mom offered to throw me one. she said, i know you're unconventional but i would love to throw you a shower. i just think that you should have what everyone else has.
i was going to say no but b was very persuasive. i don't know why since even he didn't want to go, haha ;) but i did think it would be nice to celebrate with all my friends before i move. i just made sure to let her know that i didn't want to play any shower games, have any balloons or decorations. i wanted it to be low-key. and it was. michele put together a great buffet, everything looked nice with all the right touches. it was very me. aside from my own feelings of awkwardness at receiving gifts while tons of eyeballs are staring at me, i had an awesome time.

it felt a bit surreal but it really cemented the 'wow, i'm getting married' feeling. and i felt really blessed to have seen my friends every day of the weekend.

and tonight was spiral's protein cooking class. foi and i went together. and as she stated in her blog we ate at king tut's prior to but wished we hadn't after we arrived and they served food. we didn't know that they would provide us with munchies.

the class was awesome! i learned so much. not just the different recipes but lots of cooking tips and more info about protein. everything that was made took very little time and the chef even demonstrated how to make seitan from scratch. i am very excited about that. i feel a lot more confident about trying to cook tofu in my own kitchen instead of just eating it at restaurants. and i am looking forward to trying to make my own seitan. they gave us several recipes to take home. i took a bunch of notes and hope i will still be here for the vegan baking class. i really want to know how to make those cupcakes!

so that's all the fun that is going on right now. we have been busy packing up everything and are more than halfway done, but i won't bore you with that. haha :)

i haven't done much reading this month. finished the midnighter trilogy but that's it. to be honest, i have been playing too much vampire wars in the late night hours. damn crackbook.

well, off to bed. and to new adventures to-mor-row. :) :) :)

When I was engaged, I had a very strict rule - no shower games. They really aren't so bad when all you have to do is eat and open gifts! =)
