tomorrow is the semi-annual 24 hour readathon and i couldn't be more excited! i love this event and is just one more reason to look forward to my two favorite months out of the year (october and april). my first readathon took place in october of 2008. my goal was to stay up the entire 24 hours. i hoped to read at least five books, but i wasn't sure it was a realistic goal (it was). for my second readathon in april 2009, my goal was to check in every hour, see what mini-challenges were happening and participate in as many as i could. i also wanted to check out the other readers and do a bit of reader cheerleading. (i wasn't an official cheerleader). and i stayed for almost the whole time, although i did fall asleep for an hour around hour 22 or 23.
my first go-round i was focused solely on the books and staying up the whole time. i just wanted to read. my second time i wanted to get more into the community aspect of the event. i found that it greatly enhanced my experience.
tomorrow will be my third readathon, and i am upping my participation more. i still plan on reading and checking in every hour, but i have also signed on to be a cheerleader and i am even hosting a mini-challenge! i am really really excited about hosting a challenge. so my focus this time is on involvement, although i will still be reading. i have a huge book pool from the library. i have snacks and juice and teas ready and waiting for me in the cupboards, a few designated hideouts. i think i may even take the laptop out to the back patio now that the workers have finished all the work. (it looks amazing! it's like a little paradise in the desert). and of course i plan on staying up the whole time. :)
