graphic novels

black is for beginnings
Black is for Beginnings
by Laurie Faria Stolarz
Rating: 3.0
Pages: 160
Series: Blue is for Nightmares
Format: graphic novel
Reason for Reading: to continue with the series
Challenges: Graphic Novel Challenge

Stacy is away at college. She and Jacob aren't exactly together and she is pining away for him. Things got a little complicated after she found him with amnesia. Jacob is missing Stacy but is having difficulty remembering the times they shared. They are both confused and hurting. Stacy is also having nightmares again about Maura, which is freaking her out because she isn't sure what it means.

The novel spends a great deal of time reminiscing from both characters points of views, catching up the reader on events from the books in case this is your first exposure to the series. I didn't mind it too much because it was fun the way the author summarized everything and I liked seeing the pictures that followed. However, I felt like too much of the story was focused on past events. It took its time getting to the crux of this story. Once it did, I enjoyed it much more. It was fun revisiting all the characters from the series, and the ending was sweet.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Wolves at the Gate
by Goddard, Jeanty, Whedon
Rating: 3.5
Pages: 136
Series: BTVS
Format: graphic novel
Reason for Reading: I <3 Buffy
Challenges: Graphic Novel Challenge

Life seems normal for Buffy and gang. Fighting vampires, keeping watch, kicking ass and getting it kicked. However, things get worse for Buffy when her scythe is stolen and she is attacked by vampires who turn into mist and wolves. The new vampires want to turn all the Slayers into normal girls. Xander and his new lady friend go visit Dracula to learn more about these new vampires with Dracula powers. We witness the strange relationship between Xander and his Master, Dracula. With Dracula's help, Buffy and gang go to Japan to stop the new gang of vampires from completing their mission. They are successful, but not without heartache.

I am behind on my Buffy reading, but I am really digging it in its graphic novel form. It is fun to see the characters live on and the characters continue to develop.

I'm going to read the books before reading Black is for beginnings. I've been on a real Buffy kick recently watching lots of the tv episodes and am completely caught up on the new graphic novel series. Must do the same for Angel. Hopefully volume 7 will come out soon. I hope you stick with them :)

Oh, definitely wait for Black until you've read the books. I will definitely continue with Buffy. I need to catch up on Angel too!
